About this Video
Sumeya was born in America, and yet, she is treated as if she is a threat. This unfair treatment has caused her to suffer mental hardships. She had the desire to change her religion in order to fit in with her friends, neighbors, and bullies. But through poetry, she was able to find her courageous self. Sumeya wants to encourage others, to not allow other people to tell their stories for them.

Sumeya is a muslim youth activist, spoken word poet navigating racism. She is a Boston Pulse Poet, student at John D O’Bryant High School.
