About this Video

The key to great learning is not better textbooks, courses, or computers — but dreams, creativity and collaborators. If we look beyond the industrial model of education, to the way the world wide web connects us with each other, we can design learning environments that leverage the most valuable learning resource we have, other people.

(Jan) Philipp Schmidt builds new ways for people to learn with each other online. He is co-founder of Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU) — a university for the web, built by learners — and leads the Open Learning initiative at the MIT Media Lab. Philipp was a founding board member for the OpenCourseWare Consortium, co-authored the Cape Town Open Education Declaration, and has been awarded Shuttleworth, Ashoka and MIT Media Lab Director’s fellowships. He longs for the endless immensity of the sea.
