Inventor & Entrepreneur, CEO at Samumed
Dr. Kibar is an entrepreneur and an inventor, with numerous successful start-ups under his belt. Dr. Kibar has focused the past eight years exclusively in biotechnology as the founder and chief executive officer of Samumed, LLC.
In 2007, Dr. Kibar formed Samumed around a novel approach to small molecule drug discovery, targeting the Wnt Pathway for regenerative medicine and oncology applications. Since then, he led the company through its rapid growth and multiple financing rounds, to its current state of nine programs in the clinic by the end of 2017.
Earlier in his career, he was the scientific founder of Genoptix (an oncology diagnostics company which went public in 2007 and was later acquired by Novartis in 2011), a vice president at Pequot Capital’s venture capital and private equity team, and CEO and founder of Dynamic Connections, a technology incubator focused on developing novel technologies in the life sciences field.
Dr. Kibar received his M.S. and Ph.D., specializing in Biophotonics and Optoelectronics, from University of California, San Diego, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech, and a B.A. in Mathematical Economics from Pomona College. Recently, he was named Forbes Global Game Changer of the year, presented at the Royal Society of Medicine’s 13th Medical Innovations Summit, and appeared on CNBC.
