Jo Dinger was born and raised in Park City, Utah. At the age of five he began to engage in music. From here he began playing the drums and eventually expanded his repertoire to other instrumental families, including orchestral percussion, guitar, and bass. Jo was a founding member of the band Savor the Sun which was fronted by his older brother Jack. With this group Jo played at various venues across the state of Utah, and participated in recording the band’s first album.
In high school, Jo became an award-winning marimba soloist, concert percussionist, and jazz drummer. During this time, he joined two jazz ensembles with the famous Caleb Chapman Sound House, and was the first chair percussionist in the Utah All-State Band and Orchestra from 2015 to 2018. Jo also played frequently with the Park City High School band program. From 2013 to 2018 he was a valued member of the PCHS concert band, jazz ensemble and advanced percussion studio. His work with orchestral percussion lead him to become the lead marimba player for the University of Utah Honors Youth Percussion Ensemble, also known as HYPE. Jo has been awarded first place as a marimba soloist and duet member. These accolades were awarded by the Percussive Arts Society in the Utah chapter of the Day of Percussion in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Jo’s passion is to perform, create, and enjoy music. He now studies songwriting and performance at the Berklee College of Music with the intention of starting his own successful band. In the future, Jo will continue dedicating his life to creating enjoyable music for audiences everywhere.
