Artist, Writer & Prison Reformer
Carla “Pony” Holmstrom is an artist, writer, and prison reformer based out of Boston. She swings a hammer or a paint brush to pay the bills. For the last four years, Pony has been speaking to people at universities, high schools, and churches about the transformative power of education and mentorship in prison. In addition to speaking work, Pony has been writing a memoir (or is it a play? She can’t decide!) and creating with paint/mixed media on canvas. She just got back from a trip to the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas where she stayed with friends on Buddhist retreat land to help clear debris from a recent tornado. The combination of manual labor, meditation, and natural beauty charged Pony’s batteries and left her eager to rejoin the fight for social justice.
